One important consideration is to keep your vehicle’s oil changes regularly. The oil is the life blood of the car and if you don’t change it often it will hurt it. Always do regular oil change. This one step alone will help your car last a long time.

Secondly, maintain your car in good condition by driving it at least twice a month. The tires, lubricants, seals, etc. may easily break down and dry up especially if not frequently used. So, why don’t you take a short road trip around the neighborhood to warm up your vehicle for a bit.

Shielding your old car from the elements will surely add years to your car’s life. Make sure to park your car in a covered garage to protect it from the sun and rain. If you do not have a garage then just buy the lightweight cover available in the market to protect your car.

The most important thing though is to have a general maintenance with your mechanic. This refers to the checking of tires, battery, lights and other auto parts that need maintenance. You also need to regularly have your car washed inside and out. Once a week vacuuming is good enough for the interior.

All of these things are very important to remember so you can always use your car even if it’s old. Old cars can become collector’s item so consider it an investment. Preventive and regular maintenance of cars is practical and wise.

Ways By Which You Can Maintain Your Transmission

May 2nd, 2010

Cars will function properly if the transmission used is in good working condition. It is imperative that you keep a regular scheduled maintenance on your car’s transmission so as to prevent it from experiencing any problems in the future. If you are going to do it by yourself, you need to take note of a few things which you need to add or change. Learn how to do proper car transmission maintenance through the methods provided below.

Whether you are using manual or automatic transmission, you need to change the oil as well as the transmission oil filter. We can say that the transmission oil is like the lifeblood of the engine, so it is essential that it needs to be replaced from time to time. You can basically do this within a few minutes.

First, remove the old oil by loosening the drain plug located underneath your car. Use a socket wrench and unscrew the plug so that the oil will start to drain from it. Afterwards, replace the drain plug on the oil pan.

And then you should remove the previously used oil filter using an oil filter wrench. The oil filter is very distinguishable, because it looks like a black cylinder usually besides the engine located inside the hood of your vehicle. As soon as you find it, you need to coat the new oil filter opening with a little bit of oil so that it won’t get stuck as you place it on the mount. Afterwards, you can then place the new filter on the mount and ensure that you have screwed it tightly and ensuring as well that it will not go loose. Add new oil by removing the oil filler cap and with the use of a funnel, you can add the new oil.

Last but certainly not the least, you can provision some specialized additives to your transmission oil. Provisioning these products is very good for your transmission and it will extend the life of your transmission. You may also install a transmission cooler which keeps the oil at a good, low temperature. By accomplishing this, it is highly unlikely that your car’s transmission will break down easily.

These tips are really simple when it comes to making sure that you are doing proper maintenance on your transmission. The main reason why you should accomplish these steps is to make sure that your transmission will work smoothly for a long time without being damaged. Otherwise, you will encounter problems which will lead you to spend more time and money getting your car fixed.

Due to that very reason, it is highly important that we take good care of our mode of transport. Because if a part fails it is difficult to have to take a car in to get fixed. There is the time involved and of course the costs. Read on to discover the reason why we get charged so much for having a car repaired and simple ways we can do to avoid it.

First of all there is a part of the cost of getting your car fixed that can’t be changed. That part of the cost is the auto part itself. That is something that most auto repair shops will charge just about the same. That is not where most of their money is made. So basically the charges for your car repair bill with regards to car part will stay the same.

The major cost where you spend a lot of money on would most likely be on the cost of labor. This is the usual variation on the cost that you would get among auto repair shops. Some auto repair shops charge unusually high labor costs, depending on a lot of factors. It all depends on several factors. But the main deciding factor among all auto repair shops would be the quality of the work.

So how will you manage to control this part of your auto repair cost? You have to find a good reputable company.  Because a lot of auto shops will charge you for a certain labor on a fixed price depending on the part. One way you can avoid having that type of problem is in looking for a good and reputable auto repair shop which is trustworthy. The only way to do that is through reputation. Because in this day and age, it is next to impossible for people not to know what you do with regards to your work. Because people can easily read up on your company and learn more by reading testimonials and client history which is really hard to hide nowadays.
