Customise Your Ride with Chrome Rims

July 15th, 2009

When customising your vehicle a splendid paint job and modding the specs will undeniably get you some attention but customizing is not finished without a set of flamboyant chrome rims. Rims are the mechanisms linking the tires to the axle. Most are made from an aluminium and magnesium alloy though there are other materials used. Rims vary in how wide they are, from broad for large trucks to narrow for bicycles and motorbikes. Wide rims are more stable but do create more vibration which can be unpleasant. Rims that are narrower are less stable and give inferior handling.

What Makes Chrome Rims So Attractive?

They serve a sensible use in attaching the wheels to the vehicle but they can also increase the good looks of the motor vehicle. Some rims are painted to harmonize with the vehicle but the majority of people like the appearance of ornamental, gleaming chrome plated rims. Chrome plating can be employed on other parts of the vehicle, for instance mirrors, bumpers and exhausts and the dazzling sheen catches the eye and is esthetically very delightful. Chrome rims supply no functional purpose that can’t be gained by normal rims and could cost as much as $1500 per rim. The best rims are manufactured from a steel/aluminum alloy and are better quality than all-steel wheels as they are lighter and consequently give enhanced car performance. Aluminium is very lightweight and when alloyed with magnesium or steel gives a very light rim that enhances the steering ability of the vehicle. Chrome rims are more expensive than wheels with a silver finish as the electroplating procedure takes much longer and is more involved. Many of people also like black chrome rims.

Taking Care of Alloy Rims

Look after your chrome rims and other parts by using car shampoo and water and cleaning with a sponge. Rinse off well and dry with a soft cloth. If necessary use a cleaner especially made for chrome as some cleaners have been known to cause damage. After they are dry add a protecting layer of car wax. Any dust or grime will adhere to the wax instead of the chrome and you will find cleaning is easier. Avoid using auto washes as soaps used may cause damage to the chrome or have been known to cause scratching. Only use detergents that are specially made to be used on chrome finishes as many contain acid which will damage the surface.

Where to Buy Chrome Rims

You can find chrome rims all over and also online and you will find chrome rims very easily. Take care that the ones you purchase, even if they are low-priced, are reasonable quality so that they last and don’t become dull quickly. Chrome rims should last for years if you look after them correctly.
