A Prelude has two trim levels

January 31st, 2010

During the 70s, Honda made an important person in the U.S.  Market with two of the most economic-minded autos - the deal and Civic.  Come 1979, they introduced the Honda prelude.  This was the 1st try of the company to create a new type of auto that still possesses the reliability and intelligent design, two values that make up the core of Honda.  After over twenty years, this two-door automobile became the main performance auto among Honda’s lineup.  But although the Honda preface was frequently built with Honda’s dynamic engines, it was not categorized as a muscle car.  Rather, the prelude was built around drivability and handling and at the same time having power to stay competitive.

Thru its life, a number of advanced technologies for Honda were placed in the prelude.  A number of these include Honda’s Active Torque Transfer, four-wheel steering and fuel injection.  The Honda prelude is also the 1st vehicle model of the company to get a VTEC, Honda’s trademark valve technology.

Although the preface was a success during the 80s, consumer interest vanished a decade after.  In the longer term, the preface was stuck in a $30,000 below tag price .  For a sporty coupe, this was too expensive.  In addition, it doesn’t have the total premium sports vehicle feel.  By year 2000, the coupe market vanished and the prelude was dropped by Honda.

A prelude has 2 trim levels - Type SH and base.  Both levels have four cylinder 2.2 liter engine and VTEC along with a transmission of five-speed manual.  There’s also a four-speed automated transmission available.  In the beginning, the engine was able to use 195 horsepower, but Honda did a power up to 2 hundred horsepower for the manual models.

Generally, the preface earned great commentary during its time.  It provided great handling and everybody who drove it loved the VTEC engine.  The negative feedback was mostly aimed at the prelude’s peculiar interior designed.  Nevertheless, it still was a fave and appealing car.

Admiring the Audi R8

January 29th, 2010

“The slowest car we have ever built”.

The advert was the first thing that caught my eye about the R8, when the whole world was still talking about it. I remember sitting on the sofa when the ad came on, and being grabbed by the slow beauty of it. Only a second later I realised that I was already completely hooked.

It turns out that it wasn’t just me who fell in love with Audi’s first ever supercar, the R8. It isn’t often I see something like that - people all over the world, on television, on the web, in the media, writing or saying exactly the same things - that no matter how much they resisted, they really loved the R8. I have yet to come across anyone who actively dislikes the car, suggesting that maybe Audi have managed to get it perfectly right.

Whether thin or fat, an Audi will always be pretty. Do you remember those adverts where an Audi used to rush up to the screen? Well that is how the brand will always be in my brain, scary and bull-like yet oh so tempting. As one of thier most popular cars, the TT started the trend for good looking cars, and got even better in the new version. The next step up the design ladder resulted in the amazing car we see before us.

The Audi R8 looks stunning. As fast cars go, a sleek shape littered with aerodynamic features is always a good way to start. Add to that a brilliantly “Audi” front grill and the attractive dual rear grill, and suddenly the car looks more and more like the supercar it is. I am of course a fan, but the shape of the R8 is easily one of the nicest I have ever seen, and always looks good in the street. Alongside the stunning supercar R8, Audi are now releasing the Audi R8 Spyder – although personally I prefer the shape of the original.

I know, I know, I haven’t even started talking about the stunning V10 nestled neatly under the hood of this sexy car. On paper it looks great, but they all do, and it was seeing this car in real life and at the cinema that really sold it to me.

Impressively, if you want to own a used Audi R8 rather than an expensive new one, the cost is quite dramatically reduced. I know people who have bought them at dealerships, and many of them haven’t paid much more that a tiny (relatively) £65k. If you were being held back in terms of the cost of the car, then this pricing will probably be a pleasant surprise. If you still cant reach that kind of price level, then you may have to hold off buying an Audi R8 at the minute - opt for a normal used Audi instead!
